Celebrity Spotting: Part I

November 9, 2007 · 2 Comments

I don’t know if there will be a Part II to this, but it didn’t take us long to spot our first celebrity in LA. It actually happened in Houston before we left (and is happening right now as I write this on the plane).

Cat and I watched the people gathering at our gate in the airport, and had a good time trying to pick out the LA residents. There were quite a few folks that stuck out as obvious “musician types,” with the rock-star attire, tattoos and hair. One group in particular seemed to be traveling together, with one guy organizing them like a manager would. The last member to arrive was a woman with black hair and a sombrero who just had to be a lead singer.

Sure enough, when we got on the plane, my seat ended up being behind the manager-type guy (we were in the front row of coach). Right after we took off, he got out a stack of promo shots and some Sharpees and passed them to a band member to sign. I knew it!

Evanescence! Half of the first-class section of our flight was taken up by Evanescence!

Granted, this would all be more exciting if it was a band I actually wanted to see, but it’s a cool start nonetheless. My fingers are crossed for MuteMath on the flight home. I would actually bother them for an autograph.

That’s pretty wild. I’m always on the look out at airports for celebrities. My claim to fame is meeting David Hasselhoff in the 80’s…back in the Knight Rider days. He was a jerk, didn’t say a word, and had his manager give me a photocopied photo with his autograph on it…not even a real signature! I have since shunned him from my life.

you should have said to them…
“hey aren’t you guys that christian band….
    umm….evanescence?”

and then waited patiently for their response. haha.
